*Americans use 100 billion plastic bags a year, which is equal to 12,000,000 barrels of oil (The Wall Street Journal).
*Californians use over 19 billion plastic bags each year - this is enough to strech around the globe over 250 times!
*Less than 1 percent (1 bag in 100) are recycled.
Glass jars or bottles, but no window panes or frame glass
Aluminum and tin cans
Plastic containers with the recycling symbol 1 or 2 (remove tops or caps from plastic bottles like water bottles)
Paper products (magazines, printed paper, junk mail, newspapers, milk cartons [non-plastic]), but no paper contaminated with food, no shiny paper products like glossy magazines, or no tissues or toilet paper (tissues and toilet paper can be composted!).
If you must use plastic bags, bring them back to the store if they have a recycling bin. Do not throw them in the garbage or recycling bin. They will most likely end up in a landfill.
REMEMBER THAT PLASTIC COMES FROM A NON-SUSTAINABLE PETROLEUM PRODUCT AND DOES NOT BIODEGRADE IN THE ENVIRONMENT. IT JUST BREAKS DOWN INTO SMALLER AND SMALLER PARTICLES WHICH ARE EATEN BY ORGANISMS IN THE OCEANS.
MOMS AND DADS, KIDS....ARE YOU SICK OF PLASTICS IN OUR ENVIRONMENT? DO YOU WANT TO MAKE A CHANGE TO THE WAY OUR FOOD AND CONSUMER GOODS ARE PACKAGED?
